ACS Publications: High Quality, High Impact

As we reflect upon the significant achievements of the ACS journal program in 2006, we extend our sincerest appreciation to our authors and reviewers. Thanks to your contributions, ACS remains the most-cited publisher in chemistry and its related disciplines.

As reported in the 2005 ISI® Journal Citation Reports®, the peer-reviewed journals of the ACS rank #1 in citations or ISI® Impact Factor in 14 ISI® categories, including the 7 ISI® core chemistry categories. And ACS journals exceeded 1.13 million total citations in 2005, an increase of 13% over 2004. ACS provides the forum, but you provide the research content that scientists worldwide depend on to stay current in their fields, guide their research, and grow professionally.

The ACS commitment to authors, reviewers, and researchers
Your contributions are vital to advancing the chemical and related sciences. That’s why we have a commitment to excellence in the ACS publishing and peer review process. Moreover, in keeping with the mission of the ACS, your published research is disseminated quickly and made accessible to researchers around the world. Here are some of the features we offer to give your contributions the impact they deserve:

  • ACS AuthorChoice is a new policy that facilitates unrestricted web access to your published ACS article – at the time of publication – for a one-time fixed payment, provided by you or your funding agency. Contributing authors who are ACS members and/or are affiliated with an ACS subscribing institution receive significant discounts. This policy also allows you to post copies of published articles on your personal web site and institutional repositories for non-commercial scholarly purposes.
  • ACS Articles on Request allows you to share 50 free e-prints of your published articles with colleagues within 12 months of publication and unlimited free e-prints via author-directed links thereafter.
  • Citation Manager Functionality lets you download a citation directly into your citation management software. This feature is compatible with EndNote®, Reference Manager®, ProCite®, BibTeX, and RefWorks. Look for news soon about significant enhancements that will be added to this feature in early 2007.
  • Alerts and RSS feeds let you choose the most convenient format for receiving daily or weekly notification of newly published Articles ASAP or new issues posted online.

ACS Paragon Plus Environment
New, enhanced service for authors and reviewers
The ACS Paragon Plus Environment began replacing the ACS Paragon System on a journal-by-journal basis in 2006, with more journals migrating to the new system in 2007. This web-based, real-time system integrates powerful new capabilities to simplify and streamline manuscript submission and peer review. The ACS Paragon Plus Environment is powered by ScholarOne® Manuscript Central™, used by more than 1,400 journals worldwide.

Making ACS the author community of choice
For more than 125 years, researchers worldwide have placed their trust in the journals of the American Chemical Society. Your contributions are truly the foundation of this trust and are vital to the continued success of the ACS Cycle of Excellence. Thank you again for your support in 2006. It is our goal in 2007 to continue making ACS the author community of choice.
