Science Blogversation
LiveWire presents our first Science Blogversation. This inaugural event focuses
on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. We’ve invited a panel of guests to blog with us on this topic; to
help us understand where we are and where we’re going.
Downloading ACS journal citations just got easier. As a part of ACS Publications' continued efforts to improve
the online experience for researchers, citation manager functionality has been significantly enhanced. It now enables
the downloading of
multiple citations from the ACS Journal Search Results Page, journal home pages, and journal table of contents pages;
citations from articles in the ACS Legacy Archives;
an abstract to accompany a citation for an HTML article;
a single citation at the DOI page and Supporting Information pages;
citations into a plain-text RIS file format for Mac users; and
additional information (e.g., journal ISSN number and author affiliation and address, if available) with a citation import, depending on the citation management tool.
The citation manager functionality supports BibTeX, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, and RefWorks. Learn more about
how to use the new capabilities from the new ACS Pubs FAQ.
Citation manager functionality was first launched in August 2005 and was discussed in the September 2005 issue of
LiveWire. Initially, researchers
were able to download only a single citation from an HTML abstract or a full-text article. With the implementation of this
next phase, researchers gain valuable capabilities to help save time and cite articles more accurately.
ACS AuthorChoice – “a great deal”
ACS AuthorChoice gives individual authors (or their funding agency sponsors) the option to pay a fee that sponsors
the open availability of their final, published articles online without charge to readers — at the time of publication.
Significant discounts on the fee are available for contributing authors who are members of the American Chemical Society and/or
are affiliated with an ACS subscribing institution.
“Those of you who read my Editorials know that I have been urging the American Chemical Society to address the open
access issue. The Board of Directors recently adopted a new policy called Author Choice, which enables authors to pay to have
their articles completely open access from day one. I think this is a great deal, and I will devote my next Editorial to the
open access issue in general and Author Choice in particular. In fact, I think it is such a good deal that I have taken advantage
of it myself. An article that I published in the October, 2006 issue of Chemical Research
in Toxicology is the first fully open access article published in ANY American Chemical Society journal.”

The following content continues to remain open to the public:
Unlike traditional static reviews, Chemical Reviews Perennial Reviews provide readers with the opportunity
to keep up with the most recent important results in the field. Authors may keep their review articles current for a
period of up to 5 years by updating them one or more times. The updates will be listed in the table of contents of
both the print and electronic versions of the journal, and full content will appear in the web edition, with the new
material highlighted. For more information, read the
