Winner Selected for ACS New Professional Award at SLA

Carrie Newsom, Assistant University Librarian at the University of Florida, Marston Science Library, winner of the 2008 ACS New Professional Award

We are pleased to announce that the SLA Chemistry Division Awards Committee has selected a winner for the ACS New Professional Award. The winner is:

Carrie Newsom, Chemistry Librarian at Marston Science Library, University of Florida 

Ms. Newsom receives a $1,500 SLA travel stipend, sponsored by ACS Publications. In the May issue of LiveWire, we’ll interview Ms. Newsom and ask her to describe some of the challenges she faces at UF, along with her experiences at SLA.

ACS Nanotation, the free community site dedicated to nanoscience and nanotechnology, is sponsoring the NanoVision image contest. Winners receive a $50 Visa gift card!

Each month, ACS Nanotation staff will select one submitted image depicting nanoscale science or nanotechnology on the basis of originality, artistry, and scientific/technological content. The winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card, and the winning image will be featured on our homepage. See our complete Rules and Guidelines.

Anniversary events at ACS Publications booth during National Meeting in New Orleans

Leonard V. Interrante, Editor-in-Chief of Chemistry of Materials, holds framed poster celebrating the journal’s 20th anniversary. Other celebratory events held during the 235th ACS National Meeting include the 10th volume of Organic Letters with Editor-in-Chief Amos B. Smith III, 40 years of published research with Accounts of Chemical Research Editor-in-Chief Joan S. Valentine, and the 100th anniversary of I&EC Research with Editor Donald R. Paul. In addition, Priestley Medalist Gabor Somorjai signed copies of a special C&EN issue at the booth.
