Linus Carl Pauling begins publishing a series of papers: "The Nature of the Chemical Bond."

Irving Langmuir [1612kb PDF] awarded Nobel Prize for discoveries and investigations in surface chemistry.

1934
Harold C. Urey awarded Nobel Prize for his discovery of heavy hydrogen.

1935
Frederic Joliot and Irene Joliot-Curie awarded Nobel Prize for their synthesis of new radioactive elements.

Percy L. Julian synthesized the drug physostigmine used for treating glaucoma.

1936
The frst issue of The Journal of Organic Chemistry is published.

Peter J.W. Debye awarded Nobel Prize for his contributions to our knowledge of molecular structure through his investigation on dipole moments and on the diffraction of X-rays and electrons in gases.

American Chemical Society chartered by act of U.S. Congress.

Russell Marker discovered a method to synthesize progesterone.

Carl F. Cori and Gerty T. Cori awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovery of the course of the catalytic conversion of glycogen
