Intern With C&EN

Each summer, a budding science writer gets the chance to hone their craft at Chemical & Engineering News, the weekly newsmagazine of the American Chemical Society.

C&EN reports current events in the chemical enterprise, including recent advances in research, education, industry, funding, and regulatory policy. C&EN summer interns contribute to a print magazine that reaches all 160,000 members of the ACS each week and an online edition that receives 12 million page views per year.

As a C&EN summer intern, you’ll have the opportunity to observe and participate in the process by which research findings become news. You’ll also get to fine-tune your ability to convey complex technical subjects to diverse range of chemical professionals.

Our interns are highly motivated students or recent graduates with demonstrated interest in science writing and at least a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field. They write both bylined news and feature stories for publication in C&EN.

We offer a $1500 monthly stipend for three months. Interns are ideally based in our Washington, DC, headquarters; however, exceptional candidates unable to relocate may be considered. Starting and ending dates are flexible.

Applications for the summer internship are accepted beginning in January of the year of the internship. For details on how to apply for the 2008 C&EN summer internship, please click here.
