Poster Contest Winners Announced
National Chemistry Week (NCW) 2002 activities drew to a close at the ACS national meeting in New Orleans when winners of the "Chemistry Keeps Us Clean" poster contest were announced.
The poster contest invited K12 students to draw a poster illustrating how chemistry contributes to keeping clean. Submissions were due on Jan. 10, and winners were judged at the national meeting by a panel of ACS members, including members of the NCW Task Force.
The winners in each grade category received a digital camera, and honorable mentions took home a handheld two-way radio. The winners were the following:
- Ksecond grade: First Place, Christy Kneupper, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School, Brazosport Section; Honorable Mention, Martin Kurian, Our Lady of Fatima School, Delaware Section.
- Thirdfifth grade: First Place, Marco DiBella, St. Joseph School, Mid-Hudson Section; Honorable Mention, Lauren Clement, Carl Junction Intermediate School, Mo-Kan-Ok Section.
- Sixtheighth grade: First Place, Eileen Huang, West End Middle School, Nashville Section; Honorable Mention, Lindsey Cowling, St. Mary Academy, Cleveland Section.
- Ninth12th grade: First Place, Christopher Soto-Cruz, Cecilio LebronRamos High School, Puerto Rico Section; Honorable Mention, Allison Heavner, Allegany High School, Western Maryland Section.
The theme for National Chemistry Week 2003, to be held Oct. 1925, will be "Earth's Atmosphere and Beyond!"
