EU Initiative Targets Pharma Competitiveness — The European Commission and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries & Associations have launched the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI).
Occidental Goes Mercury-Free — Occidental Chemical has converted all of its chlor-alkali production in North America to mercury-free membrane cell technology.

FDA Nixes Genzyme Process — FDA has rejected Genzyme's application to produce large-scale quantities of Myozyme, an analog of a human enzyme to treat Pompe disease, a rare inherited metabolic disorder.
