A Number Of Events Mark The 50th Anniversary Of The Double Helix

Feb. 6—April 11, Exhibit "From Code to Commodity: Genetics & Visual Art" at the New York Academy of Sciences, New York City.

Feb. 26—April 5, "Genomic Issue(s): Art and Science." Art exhibit at the Art Gallery of the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY). Includes March 14 panel discussion with artists from the exhibit.

Feb. 26—June 8, "How Human: Life in the Post-Genome Era." Exhibit at the International Center of Photography, New York City.

February—July, "Seeking the Secret of Life: DNA in NY." Exhibit of archival material from the library and archives of CSHL and the Rockefeller Archive Center at the Science, Industry & Business Library of the New York Public Library, New York City.

March 10, Staged reading of "Thread of Life," a play about the role of Rosalind E. Franklin in the discovery of the structure of DNA, in Elebash Recital Hall at the Graduate Center of CUNY.

March 28, Dance recital "Dance, Music, and DNA" at CUNY.

April 14—15, From Double Helix to Human Sequence--and Beyond. Scientific symposium at National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md.

April 15, "Bringing the Genome to You." Public symposium at Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C.

April 23, Celebratory dinner sponsored by Medical Research Council and the Royal Society, London.

April 23—24, Replicating and Reshaping DNA: A Celebration of the Jubilee of the Double Helix. Discussion meeting at the Royal Society, London.

April 25, National DNA Day. High school events across U.S.

April 25, DNA: 50 Years of the Double Helix. Scientific symposium at the University of Cambridge.

April 25—Sept. 1, The Geee! In Genome. Exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Nature, Ottawa. Exhibition then travels throughout Canada until March 2006.

June, Opening of Smithsonian exhibit "Genome: How Life Works," Washington, D.C.

Oct. 10—11, Symposium celebrating the 50th anniversary of the double helix and its impact on biotechnology, University of California, Berkeley.

Nov. 2003—May 2004, "Writing Life: James D. Watson through his writings." Exhibit at the New York Public Library, New York City.
