GOVERNMENT
Berg, 45, holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. "NIH and the government are very lucky to have been able to attract Dr. Berg," Zerhouni tells C&EN. "He is an outstanding leader and one of the bright lights of his generation." For his part, Berg tells C&EN that he is excited to be joining the agency. "NIH has been very good to me and very good to the sort of science that I believe in," he says. "Having a chance to help direct it is a thrill." In early November, Berg will replace Judith H. Greenberg, who has been acting director of NIGMS since May 2002. |
