Biography

Susan D. Richardson is a research chemist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Exposure Research Laboratory in Athens, GA. She received her B.S. degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Georgia College in 1984 and her Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Emory University in 1989. Her recent research has focused on the identification, characterization, and quantification of new disinfection byproduct (DBPs), with special emphasis on alternative disinfectants and polar byproducts. She led a recent Nationwide DBP Occurrence Study mentioned in this paper and is particularly interested in promoting new health effects research so that the risks of DBPs can be determined and minimized.
