Abstract

A laboratory-made device to estimate the available charge of lead-acid batteries is proposed. It is based on a Pb/PbO2 potentiometric cell which potential is directly proportional to the electrolyte density which in turn, is related to the available capacity of the battery. Standard deviations less than 0.5% were obtained in relation to the traditional density measurements.
