Abstract
The conformation of 3'-Azido-3'-deoxythymidine-5'-monophosphate (AZTMP) in an aqueous solution buffered at pH 7.2 was determined using a combination of NMR (1H and 31P) and molecular modelling techniques. Under the conditions studied, AZTMP was found to adopt a C1'-exo, primarily beta(t) and gamma(+) conformation with torsional angle -139.9 degrees.

Rachel R. Peterson and James R. CoxJournal of Chemical Education2001 78 (11), 1551The biochemistry laboratory at many universities is becoming more focused on a project-oriented experience. For example, a single enzyme is chosen and studied throughout the entire semester. A project-oriented laboratory has been adapted and expanded to ...

Joseph W. LeFevre , Kristin I. McNeill and Janet L. MooreJournal of Chemical Education2001 78 (4), 535In this four-week project, the pentacyclic triterpene friedelin is isolated from laboratory cork. The ground cork is refluxed in ethyl acetate, from which crude friedelin crystallizes. The crude product is analyzed by thin-layer chromatography and ...

Anne Rehart and J. T. GerigJournal of Chemical Education2000 77 (7), 892We describe an exercise intended to introduce students to the proton NMR experiments used to define the molecular conformation of biological molecules in solution. Proton NMR spectra of the octapeptide [sar1] angiotensin II are assigned and nuclear ...

Tammy J. Dwyer , Julia E. Norman and Paul G. JasienJournal of Chemical Education1998 75 (12), 1635An integrated upper-division physical-organic experiment for chemistry majors has been developed. It involves the determination and mechanistic interpretation of the C=C and C-N rotational barriers in a push-pull ethylene. In the course of the experiment ...
