Abstract

Thin layer chromatography (TLC) is a simple yet very powerful analytical tool. If compounds aren't uv-active, some staining reagents have to be applied in order to carry out spot detection under a uv-lamp after the plate has been developed. This article offers an alternative method of applying the staining reagents. The two common ways of application are spraying and dipping, but here we outline staining through the use of a cotton ball.
