Abstract

A new liquid-liquid countercurrent process based on vortexing of liquid is described and an application of the process in separation of a mixture of acidic, basic, and neutral compounds by controlled pH extraction is given. The extractor consists of four mixer-settler pairs, and the liquid phase is driven by vortexing which is generated by stirring. This vortexing countercurrent chromatography (VCCC) is applicable in general preparative separation and continuous flow chemical synthesis.
