Abstract
Clock reaction experiments with methylene blue (MB) and L-ascorbic acid (H2 A) were designed in aqueous sulfuric and hydrochloric acid media with a view to demonstrate and explain the concepts in chemical kinetics such as order of the reaction, effect of ionic strength, dielectric constant and temperature. On the basis of the obtained results, a plausible mechanism for the reduction of MB by H2 A has been proposed.

Lifang Chen, Juncheng Hu, Zhiwen Qi, Yunjin Fang, and Ryan RichardsIndustrial & Engineering Chemistry Research2011 50 (24), 13642-13649A nanoscaled reactor framework of well-dispersed gold particles intercalated into the walls of mesoporous silica (GMS) was prepared by functionalizing silica with thioether groups. The GMS maintains mesoporous structure with uniform pores of 5.6 nm and ...

Surojit Pande, Subhra Jana, Soumen Basu, Arun Kumar Sinha, Ayan Datta, and Tarasankar PalThe Journal of Physical Chemistry C2008 112 (10), 3619-3626Bulk Cu2O or cuprite is the only stable copper(I) compound present in plentiful amount in earth's crust. It is a challenging job to take bulk Cu2O to a nanoregime and to stabilize it in solution. No wonder that Cu2O in its nanoregime would act as a ...

Soo-Keun Lee, Martin Sheridan, and Andrew MillsChemistry of Materials2005 17 (10), 2744-2751The results of a detailed characterization study of a novel UV-activated colorimetric oxygen indicator are described. The indicator uses nanoparticles of titania to photosensitize the reduction of methylene blue by triethanolamine in a polymer ...

Whitney E. Wellman and Mark E. Noble , Tom HealyJournal of Chemical Education2003 80 (5), 537A new formulation is reported for the Blue Bottle demonstration. The new formulation uses methylene blue and O2 as in the classical Blue Bottle, but ascorbic acid replaces glucose. Instead of half-molar KOH, the solution has a pH of 3. Copper serves as ...

Alexander J. Hallock, Elena S. F. Berman, and Richard N. ZareJournal of the American Chemical Society2003 125 (5), 1158-1159The kinetics of methylene blue reduction by ascorbic acid in acetonitrile was investigated by cavity ring-down spectroscopy. Because of our high sensitivity we were able to use very low concentrations (1−10 nM) of the dye. Under these conditions, we ...
