Abstract
The JCE Internet Conceptual Question and Challenge Problem Web site is a source of questions and problems that can be used in teaching and assessing conceptual understanding and problem solving in chemistry. Here you can find a library of free-response and multiple-choice conceptual questions and challenge problems, tips for writing these questions and problems, and a discussion of types of conceptual questions. This site is intended to be a means of sharing conceptual questions and challenge problems among chemical educators. The Conceptual Questions and Challenge Problems Web site can be found here.

Analysis of Student Performance on Multiple-Choice Questions in General Chemistry
JudithAnn R. Hartman and Shirley LinJournal of Chemical Education2011 Article ASAPAnalysis of Student Performance on Multiple-Choice Questions in General Chemistry
JudithAnn R. Hartman and Shirley LinJournal of Chemical Education2011 Article ASAPThe percentage of students choosing the correct answer (PSCA) on 17 multiple-choice algorithmic questions taken from general chemistry exams is analyzed. PSCAs for these questions varied from 47 to 93%, and a decrease of 4.5% in PSCA was observed with ...

Preparing Students To Benefit from Inquiry-Based Activities in the Chemistry Laboratory: Guidelines and Suggestions
Laura B. Bruck and Marcy H. TownsJournal of Chemical Education2009 86 (7), 820Preparing Students To Benefit from Inquiry-Based Activities in the Chemistry Laboratory: Guidelines and Suggestions
Laura B. Bruck and Marcy H. TownsJournal of Chemical Education2009 86 (7), 820In this paper, we suggest strategies for instructors to use to prepare students for inquiry-based activities. Instructors should ensure that appropriate content material has been covered in lecture prior to implementing inquiry-based activities in the ...

Richard W. Schwenz2007 973 (), 237-250The physical chemistry curriculum reform efforts of the last two decades have succeeded in encouraging some revisions in the material in the lecture and in new or modernized exercises for use in the laboratory. More slowly, the mainstream standardized ...

Cross-Proportions: A Conceptual Method for Developing Quantitative Problem-Solving Skills
Elzbieta Cook and Robert L. CookJournal of Chemical Education2005 82 (8), 1187Cross-Proportions: A Conceptual Method for Developing Quantitative Problem-Solving Skills
Elzbieta Cook and Robert L. CookJournal of Chemical Education2005 82 (8), 1187This paper focuses attention on the cross-proportion (C-P) method of mathematical problem solving, which was once widely used in chemical calculations. We propose that this method regain currency as an alternative to the dimensional analysis (DA) method, ...

Using Computer-Based Visualization Strategies to Improve Students' Understanding of Molecular Polarity and Miscibility
Michael J. Sanger and Steven M. Badger IIJournal of Chemical Education2001 78 (10), 1412Using Computer-Based Visualization Strategies to Improve Students' Understanding of Molecular Polarity and Miscibility
Michael J. Sanger and Steven M. Badger IIJournal of Chemical Education2001 78 (10), 1412This study reports how instruction including visualization strategies associated with computer animations and electron density plots affected students' conceptual understanding of two chemistry topics. Two sets of students responded to several conceptual ...
