Jorge Garrido, E. Manuela Garrido, and Fernanda BorgesJournal of Chemical Education2012 89 (1), 130-133Antioxidants are additives largely used in industry for delaying, retarding, or preventing the development of oxidative deterioration. Propyl gallate (E310) is a phenolic antioxidant extensively used in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. ...

Oxidative Stability of Middle Distillate Fuels. Part 1: Exploring the Soluble Macromolecular Oxidatively Reactive Species (SMORS) Mechanism with Jet Fuels
Christopher G. Kabana, Shanielle Botha, Colin Schmucker, Chris Woolard, and Bruce BeaverEnergy & Fuels2011 25 (11), 5145-5157Oxidative Stability of Middle Distillate Fuels. Part 1: Exploring the Soluble Macromolecular Oxidatively Reactive Species (SMORS) Mechanism with Jet Fuels
Christopher G. Kabana, Shanielle Botha, Colin Schmucker, Chris Woolard, and Bruce BeaverEnergy & Fuels2011 25 (11), 5145-5157The soluble macromolecular oxidatively reactive species (SMORS) mechanism has recently been applied to jet fuel thermal oxidative degradation at high temperatures (250–550 °C). The primary purpose of this work is to further test the extant SMORS mechanism ...

Demonstrating the Antioxidative Capacity of Substances with Lightsticks
Robert R. Wieczorek and Katrin SommerJournal of Chemical Education2011 88 (4), 468-469Demonstrating the Antioxidative Capacity of Substances with Lightsticks
Robert R. Wieczorek and Katrin SommerJournal of Chemical Education2011 88 (4), 468-469The antioxidative capacity of phytochemical compounds is often discussed in life science courses (to prevent or slow cancer) and food science courses (to prevent the oxidation of sensitive ingredients). Thus, we developed a laboratory experiment where the ...

Quantitative HPLC Analysis of Rosmarinic Acid in Extracts of Melissa officinalis and Spectrophotometric Measurement of Their Antioxidant Activities

Vera Canelas and Cristina Teixeira da CostaJournal of Chemical Education2007 84 (9), 1502The students prepare tea samples using different quantities of lemon balm leaves (Melissa officinalis) and measure the rosmarinic acid contents by an HPLC–DAD method. The antioxidant properties of the tea samples are evaluated by a spectrophotometric ...

Bruce Beaver, Maria Sobkowiak, Caroline Burgess Clifford, Yunjing Wei, and Mitch FedekEnergy & Fuels2007 21 (2), 987-991JP-900 is a generic name representing a future jet fuel that will be required to handle the anticipated thermal stress of
900 °F (482 °C) for several hours. In the previous paper in this journal, we showed that the addition, to a JP-8 fuel, of model ...
