Abstract
This article discusses examples of three thermodynamic diagrams that have been developed for this purpose. They are the thermodynamic energy account (TEA), the total entropy scale, and the thermodynamic scale diagrams. These diagrams help in the teaching and learning of thermodynamics by bringing the imagination into the process of developing a better understanding of abstract thermodynamic functions, and by allowing the reader to keep track of specialist thermodynamic discourses in the literature.

Mnemonic Device for Relating the Eight Thermodynamic State Variables: The Energy Pie
Jeffrey E. Fieberg and Charles A. GirardJournal of Chemical Education2011 88 (11), 1544-1546Mnemonic Device for Relating the Eight Thermodynamic State Variables: The Energy Pie
Jeffrey E. Fieberg and Charles A. GirardJournal of Chemical Education2011 88 (11), 1544-1546A mnemonic device, the energy pie, is presented that provides relationships between thermodynamic potentials (U, H, G, and A) and other sets of variables that carry energy units, TS and PV. Methods are also presented in which the differential expressions ...
