Abstract
An undergraduate laboratory experiment is designed for the quantitative determination of quinine in tonic water samples. It is based upon direct fluorescence emission and first-derivative spectroscopic methods. Unlike other published laboratory experiments, this method exposes students to the general method of derivative spectroscopy.

Ronald J. Clarke and Anna OprysaJournal of Chemical Education2004 81 (5), 705This experiment allows students to discover the fundamental experimental difference between fluorescence and light scattering; namely, that the wavelength of fluorescence is independent of the excitation wavelength whereas the wavelength of scattered ...

M. J. Santos-Delgado and L. Larrea-TarruellaJournal of Chemical Education2004 81 (1), 97This article describes the statistical comparison of two back-titration methods for the determination of glycine in a glacial HAc medium. The titration is carried out using perchloric acid. The glycine quantities obtained were determined by several groups ...
