Abstract
A novel method based on the catalytic effect of micelles exerted by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB), respectively, on the indicator reaction between H2O2 and bromopyrogallol red (BPR), a triphenylmethane dye, to determine the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of CTAB and CPB.

Thermodynamics of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) Micellization: An Undergraduate Laboratory Experiment
Juan P. Marcolongo and Martín MirendaJournal of Chemical Education2011 88 (5), 629-633Thermodynamics of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) Micellization: An Undergraduate Laboratory Experiment
Juan P. Marcolongo and Martín MirendaJournal of Chemical Education2011 88 (5), 629-633An undergraduate laboratory experiment is presented that allows a thermodynamic characterization of micelle formation of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in aqueous solutions. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the degree of micelle ionization (α) ...

The Role of Bromide Ions in Seeding Growth of Au Nanorods
Niti Garg, Clark Scholl, Ashok Mohanty and Rongchao JinLangmuir2010 26 (12), 10271-10276The Role of Bromide Ions in Seeding Growth of Au Nanorods
Niti Garg, Clark Scholl, Ashok Mohanty and Rongchao JinLangmuir2010 26 (12), 10271-10276We report our findings on the important role of bromide ions in the seeding growth process of Au nanorods. The seed-mediated process constitutes a well-developed method for synthesizing gold nanorods in high yield, which is facilitated by a micelle-...

Marc R. Bresler and John P. HagenJournal of Chemical Education2008 85 (2), 269Many physical chemistry lab courses include an experiment in which students measure surface tension as a function of surfactant concentration. In the traditional experiment, the data are fit to the Gibbs isotherm to determine the molar area for the ...
