Abstract
We present a project called "Chemistry in an Aquarium", which was developed over the last few years by a group of researchers from the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of La Sapienza University of Rome and MUSIS (Multipolar Museum of Science and Scientific Information in Rome). The project aims to show how the study and analysis of physical and chemical parameters related to life in and the development of an aquarium can be used to teach chemistry at different school levels. This topic, initially developed during refresher courses for science teachers, was later successfully employed in the construction of an integrated museological unit for "CHEMistry for Life", a European project promoted by ECSITE and CEFIC.

Barbara Meissner and Franz BognerJournal of Chemical Education2011 88 (4), 510-515Although teachers in principle are prepared to make use of science centers, such excursions often fail to facilitate learning processes. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the link between science centers and schools. The design and evaluation of ...

Jeffrey J. Keaffaber , Ramiro Palma and Kathryn R. WilliamsJournal of Chemical Education2008 85 (2), 225Water chemistry is central to aquarium design, and it provides many potential applications for discussion in undergraduate chemistry and engineering courses. Marine aquaria and their life support systems feature many chemical processes. A life support ...
