Abstract
The traditional line that is drawn across the periodic table to separate metals from nonmetals is not a guide to which elements are semimetals. Silicon, boron, and astatine adjoin the line but are nonmetals, while selenium and bismuth, which do not adjoin the line, are semimetals, and polonium, which does adjoin the line, is a metal.

Manjeera Mantina, Adam C. Chamberlin, Rosendo Valero, Christopher J. Cramer and Donald G. TruhlarThe Journal of Physical Chemistry A2009 113 (19), 5806-5812Atomic radii are not precisely defined but are nevertheless widely used parameters in modeling and understanding molecular structure and interactions. The van der Waals radii determined by Bondi from molecular crystals and data for gases are the most ...

Guillermo Restrepo, Héber Mesa, Eugenio J. Llanos, and José L. VillavecesJournal of Chemical Information and Computer Sciences2004 44 (1), 68-75We carried out a topological study of the Space of Chemical Elements, SCE, based on a clustering analysis of 72 elements, each one defined by a vector of 31 properties. We looked for neighborhoods, boundaries, and other topological properties of the SCE. ...
