Use of Tabulated Thermochemical Data for Pure Compounds

Abstract

Thermodynamic data for inorganic compounds are found in a variety of tabulations and computer databases. The common tabulations and various data formats are discussed. Depending on the database, enthalpies are reported as sensible heats or enthalpy functions. Free energies are reported as free energies of formation, free energy functions, or Gibbs energies. Standard states may be the stable form at the temperature of interest or at 298.15 K. Equations for using these various forms of thermodynamic data are derived and illustrated with examples.
