Abstract
Two improvements were made on Hittorf's apparatus. The electrodes were placed above the connected tube to avoid producing gases that would disturb the interface. A simple galvanostat was used for the determination of ion transfer number, to eliminate the measurement errors caused by the fluctuating current. Better results were obtained using the improved apparatus, which is simple to operate.
