Abstract

A simple, sensitive, and practical apparatus was designed and constructed by refitting a commercially available electronic balance, and the equipment has been used for superparamagnetic Fe₃O₄ colloidal particle size and size distribution analysis. The apparatus is especially suitable for teaching students basic experimental skills and it illustrates the basic concepts of sedimentation.
