Abstract

Several articles describing the historical origins of chromatography have appeared in the Journal of Chemical Education, including early studies in the 1800's, as well as the work of Michael Tswett in the first two decades of the 20th century. Of especial interest is an English translation of Tswett's first complete publication on chromatographic methods, a paper considered today to be a landmark of the scientific literature.
