Abstract

During the last 60 years of the 20th century, the problem of the determination of the tetrahedral bond angle kept cropping up in the literature. The solutions that have been proposed can be divided in two groups. In solutions of group I geometrical properties of a solid body are used; solutions of group II that are based on vector algebra. Probably the simplest determination of each group is given, and some problems with arguments that are based on the dipole moment of CX4 molecules are discussed.
