Abstract

A new formulation is reported for the Blue Bottle demonstration. The new formulation uses methylene blue and O₂ as in the classical Blue Bottle, but ascorbic acid replaces glucose. Instead of half-molar KOH, the solution has a pH of 3. Copper serves as the catalyst.
