Abstract
The sunlight-induced photoreactions of M(CO)6 with C60 producing (η2-C60)M(CO)5 (M= Mo, W) complexes are modular, inexpensive, and relatively safehands-on activities. This experiment promotes laboratory skills, chemical applications of group theory, and the understanding of thebackbonding concept (and π-acidity) and its relation to the electronicstructure of C60 and the metal.

Andrew P. Ault and Robert PomeroyJournal of Chemical Education2012 89 (2), 243-247Biodiesel has gained attention in recent years as a renewable fuel source due to its reduced greenhouse gas and particulate emissions, and it can be produced within the United States. A laboratory experiment designed for students in an upper-division ...

Alistair J. Lees and Vladimir Jakubek , David M. Hayes , Maura Mahar , R. Chris Schnabel and Paras ShahJournal of Chemical Education2007 84 (9), 1483We present a new laboratory experiment on the photochemistry of organometallic η5,η6-mixed-sandwich compounds, which is suitable for both the physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry laboratory. Specifically, students use 1,10–phenanthroline to trap the ...
