Abstract

The use of peer-evaluated poster sessions for evaluating laboratory work is discussed. Students in the general chemistry course present their lab results during weekly poster sessions at the beginning of the lab period. Each poster is graded by the students in the class and also by the instructor. These poster sessions give the instructor an additional nontraditional assessment technique, are fun for the students and instructor, promote student ownership of their work, and give the student valuable experience for future research presentations.
