Abstract

This article describes a simple laboratory experiment to teach students how to measure mass-transfer coefficients by an electrochemical technique. The experiment allows the students to increase their knowledge about mass transfer and its importance in chemical processes. A simple Microsoft Excel spreadsheet allows students to correlate experimental data in laminar and turbulent regimes. Results obtained can be compared with those obtained from a well-known equation given in electrochemistry and chemical engineering books.
