Abstract

A coordination complex, (σ2-terpyridyl)Re(CO)3Cl, is synthesized according to a straight-forward literature preparation and then purified by re-crystallization. The solid-state properties of the complex produced are characterized by means of X-ray crystallography. The characterization of the solution-state properties is accomplished by standard NMR analysis techniques. Interpretation skills involving NMR chemical shift, coupling constants, and 2D correlation NMR data are enhanced while the dynamic nature of a chemical exchange system is explored in detail.
