Abstract
The one-semester general, organic, and biochemistry (GOB) course at Georgia Southern University has been revised from a standard "follow the textbook" curriculum to an integrated curriculum, which focuses on presenting foundational concepts (general and organic chemistry) in the context of biomolecules and biochemistry and moving the majority of the computational aspects of the course to the laboratory. The laboratory curriculum has also been modified to incorporate more experiments with a biochemical focus. Additionally, a capstone project has been developed and added to the course. The resulting curriculum has been compared to the standard curriculum in terms of the level of student interest. The results of this comparison and an outline of the curriculum are presented.
