Abstract

Highly ordered funnel-like BaCrO4 superstructures with a complex form and a remarkable self-similar growth pattern as well as very long BaSO4 fiber bundles with repetitive growth patterns can be readily generated by using sodium polyacrylate as a structure directing agent in the mineralization process. The formation of fibers and fiber bundles as well as finer morphological details can be effected by variations of the temperature, pH, and concentration.

Shichoon Lee, Seung Goo Lee, Myungsun Sim, Donghoon Kwak, Jong Hwan Park, and Kilwon ChoCrystal Growth & Design2011 11 (11), 4920-4926Acidic biomacromolecules frequently incorporate into biomineralized structures to control the morphology and extent of crystal growth. The study of such processes has been hindered by the scarcity of a model system that mimics the influence of acidic ...

Xinbin Zhang, Jie Zhao, Qing Zhu, Ning Chen, Mingwen Zhang, and Qinmin PanACS Applied Materials & Interfaces2011 3 (7), 2630-2636Walking on the water surface is a dream of humans, but it is exactly the way of life for some aquatic insects. In this study, a bionic aquatic microrobot capable of walking on the water surface like a water strider was reported. The novel water strider-...
