Certification?
Questions about the value of CHO certification have been raised among
chemical health and safety professionals. Although we believe that
certification should be an option rather than a requirement for serving as a
CHO, we also believe that formal certification would be of value to
individuals and organizations alike. Passing a comprehensive certification
examination would answer concerns some CHOs may have about their knowledge
base, build their confidence, and add to their credibility within their
organizations.
Formal certification would be administered by an independent certifying
body. Certification examination questions would have to be prepared by
panels of experts in the various fields covered. An examination subject
matter syllabus would have to be made available to anyone interested in
sitting for the certification examination, without regard to participation
in any formal training programs.
