Figure 4. TerraGen Discovery’s approach to combinatorial biology. DNA isolated from pools of unknown microbes that are difficult to culture is cloned into easily cultured E. coli or yeast, which serve as DNA archives. Host cultures then provide sufficient amounts of enzymes encoded by archive DNA to be used for drug-related assays.
