Once you have loaded Distiller 5.0, you will need
to prepare Distiller for working with files that contain
custom color definitions. The "prologue.ps" and "epilogue.ps"
files use the definition of "setcustomcolor"to retain
the custom color definitions when creating a PDF from
a Postscript file. In order to use custom colors, you
will need to move these two files into the same folder
as the Distiller application. You will need to restart
Distiller before both files can be loaded.
Setting Distiller's Job OptionsGeneral Options
Open Distiller 5.0 and go to Settings. Select the Job Options.
The following window displays the settings that you will need
to apply in the "General" tab of Distiller's Job Options.
Select the Compression tab on the Job Options window
and set the options as in the example below.
Setting Distiller's Job OptionsFonts Options
On this tab, you will designate how Distiller includes
the fonts from the Postscript file into the PDF file.
Use the example as a guide to set up this tab.
Setting Distiller's Job OptionsColor Options
This tab enables you to set color and color profiles
that are used in Distiller. We request that you leave
the color unchanged when converting to PDF files.
Setting Distiller's Job OptionsAdvanced Options
Use this tab to specify how you want Distiller to
use custom colors, job ticket info, default page sizes,
and more. The following is an example of how this tab
should be set up for high-end output.
You will need to check the Use prologue.ps/epilogue.ps
box when using a spot or PMS color. Choosing this selection
tells Distiller to use the prologue.ps/epilogue.ps files
to preserve any custom spot colors that were found in
the Postscript file.
Save Distiller's Job Options
When all settings are entered, press the "Save As..."
button and name the options as ACS_pdf.jobotion.
The next time you need to create a pdf for print,
you can open distiller and select ACS_pdf from the Job
Options drop-down menu.
Before you close distiller, make sure ACS_pdf option
is showing as the selected Job Option. This will ensure
that when you create a pdf from another program such
as QuarkXpress those setting are used.
