Submission and Authoring in ACS Paragon Plus
Choosing File Designations during Submission
ACS Paragon Plus offers authors a selection of File Designations
from which to choose during the File Upload step.
These designations cover the range of components that authors need
to provide for publication and peer review. You must choose an
appropriate File Designation for each file you upload. Choose the
appropriate designation for each file that is uploaded by matching
it to the following descriptions. A list of acceptable software formats for each File Designation is also provided. Files that are not in an acceptable
format will be rejected by the system.
If you will be submitting your manuscript in TeX or LaTex, please
see Preparing and Submitting Manuscripts Using
TeX/LaTeX before submitting your manuscript.
Hint: Note that each journal office may specify which
File Designations it accepts. If your file is in an unacceptable
format, check to see if a PDF file would be acceptable and create
one from the native file for uploading.
Manuscript File
The manuscript for publication may be submitted with graphics embedded in
the text where they are discussed, placed at the end of the text, or left
out of the text and submitted as separate files. Consult the Author
Guidelines for the journal to which you are submitting for the Editor's
requirements or preferences. Two File Designations are available for
manuscript text; a variety of word-processing software is supported for
these two File Designations.
Manuscript File:
This file is required. It should contain your original manuscript
text (graphics may either be embedded in the file or uploaded
separately) and it should be created in an acceptable software
format. Paragon Plus will automatically produce both a PDF and an
HTML proof from this file for use during the peer review process.
Manuscript PDF File:
This file is optional. Authors may choose to submit this file in
addition to the Manuscript File, to facilitate the
peer review process. If a Manuscript PDF File is
uploaded, that file will be used as the PDF proof during the peer
review process instead of the system-generated proof.
Graphic for Manuscript
Choose Graphic for manuscript for any separately uploaded graphic
files that are intended for publication with the manuscript text. Files
uploaded with this File Designation will be included in the PDF and HTML
versions that are produced for the reviewer. They will appear in the PDF
file in the order designated at time of upload; they will be linked in
the HTML. You will be given the opportunity to input a figure caption and
a tag for each graphic. The caption will be displayed in the PDF
underneath the graphic. The tag will be used to link the graphic to the
same word(s) in the text in the HTML version.
Do not choose this File Designation if the graphic is intended as
Supporting Information; instead, see section on Supporting Information
below. Graphics are acceptable in either PDF or TIFF format;
other formats cannot be used reliably in production.
TeX/LaTeX Suppl Files
This File Designation is chosen for any
file that is referenced as part of a TeX/LaTeX document.
If you will be submitting your manuscript in TeX or LaTex, please
see Preparing and Submitting Manuscripts Using
TeX/LaTeX before submitting your manuscript.
Completed and Signed Copyright Form
The ACS Copyright
Status Form is a legal document and must be signed manually.
Once the form has been signed, it can be faxed or mailed to the appropriate editorial
office. You also have the option of uploading a PDF or TIF
version of the signed copy at the time of submission. The
Completed and Signed Copyright Form file designation should be
selected.
Other Files for Editor Only
Choose the Other files for Editor Only file designation for any material
that the Editor needs but that is not intended either for the reviewer or
for publication. Examples would be permission letters to reproduce
material from another publication or reviews from an earlier submission
of the paper.
Supporting Information for Review Only
The Supporting Information for Review Only file
designation is for any material that should be made available to the
reviewer of the paper, but which is not intended for publication on
the Web as part of the paper if it is accepted. A wide variety of file
types are available. Authors no longer have to supply a PDF of
their files; whenever appropriate the PDF will be created by Paragon
Plus. An example would be a paper that is in press on the same or a
related topic.
Web Enhanced Object
The Web Enhanced Object is any material intended to be published
on the Web, accessible from a link in the HTML version of the paper.
While a wide variety
of files types are available, these are usually interactive
files that cannot be presented in print, such as a movie or a
rotatable 3-D image. For further information see Specifications for Web
Enhanced Objects.
