Submission and Authoring in ACS Paragon Plus
Author-Supplied Manuscript PDF Files Now Accepted
in ACS Paragon Plus
The following functionality has been applied to the ACS Paragon
Plus Environment for all journals. If you have any questions about using this
functionality, please contact the ACS Help Desk, at paragonplus@acs.org.
Author-Supplied PDF Files
ACS authors now have two submission options in ACS Paragon Plus:
- To provide their own Manuscript PDF File, along
with the corresponding Manuscript File
- To provide the Manuscript File only, and allow
ACS to do the PDF conversion
Authors choosing the first option will be able to upload a PDF
version of the manuscript using the new file designation
“Manuscript PDF File”. These authors
will still be required to also provide a word processing file of
their manuscript or a zipped file of all of their manuscript
documents, e.g., in the case of TeX/LaTeX.

Figure 1
The author-supplied Manuscript PDF File will be
used to create the peer review proof. If graphics are uploaded
separately using the Graphic for manuscript file
designation, they will be appended to the Manuscript PDF
File in the peer-review proofs (in the order specified on
the File Upload step).
Authors choosing to provide only the Manuscript
File will simply upload these files to the appropriate file
designations and ACS will handle the PDF conversion process.
The file designations “Manuscript text with embedded
graphics” and “Manuscript text without embedded
graphics” have been retired. A single file designation of
“Manuscript File” will be used instead. Authors will be
required to upload one (and only one) “Manuscript File”,
as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2
The allowed extensions for the “Manuscript File” file
designation will include .zip. The complete list of allowed
extensions for this file designation is: doc, dot, ltx, rtf, tex,
wp, wpd, zip.
Options for Submitting TeX/LaTeX Manuscripts
The File Upload step of the submission process will provide the
following options to TeX/LaTeX authors.
- An author will be able to submit a TeX/LaTeX file as the
“Manuscript File” and have it converted to PDF by ACS
Paragon Plus and included in the peer-review proofs.
- An author can submit a .zip file with the file designation
“Manuscript File” and a “Manuscript PDF
File” which will be included in the peer-review proofs.
Instructions on Preparing and Submitting Manuscripts Using TeX/LaTeX have been revised to instruct TeX/LaTeX authors about their options.
