Guidelines for Authors

NOTE: Authors may now choose to submit their own Manuscript PDF File for use during the peer review process, or allow the system to generate a PDF automatically. [See details...] Note that there are special instructions for Preparing and Submitting Manuscripts Using TeX/LaTeX.

Manuscripts may no longer be submitted as mailed hardcopies.

Authors should read the ACS Ethical Guidelines.

Before preparing a manuscript, authors should review Important Manuscript Submission Requirements and read the JACS Guidelines for Authors [PDF]. Information about Supporting Information is also available.

The Journal of the American Chemical Society offers authors Web submission of Communications and Articles using the secure ACS Paragon Plus Environment. Use of the JACS Communication template is required for all Communication submissions and for preparing final revisions of accepted Communications. A sample Communication [PDF] is available for reference in preparing Communications. A Table of Contents graphic [PDF] and an Abstract are required to be present within the Communication at submission.

A template is also available for Articles. Authors are encouraged to use the Article template for preparation of their Articles, but it is not required. Authors of Articles who choose not to employ a template are asked to paste their graphics within the text close to the place of first mention, as this will produce documents that are easier to review. A graphic for use in the Table of Contents is also required for all Article submissions; authors should place it at the end of their word-processing file as the last page.

Further JACS-specific guidance is given in:

General Instructions
