Submission and Authoring
CIF Validation
It is the responsibility of the author(s) to check their
Crystallographic Information Files (CIFs) for the following items prior
to submission:
- Syntax errors
- Numerical self-consistency of the data
- Possible higher symmetry in the space group assignment.
Authors are encouraged to validate their CIFs on the Web using the
free CheckCIF
utility that is available from the International Union of
Crystallography.
Some ACS journals require that a copy of the CheckCIF output be
retained in case it is requested by an editor or reviewer.
