Institutional Electronic Pricing Options

Electronic Access

In 2008 ACS is introducing a new, tier-based pricing model, with different frameworks established for different types of customers (academic, corporate, non-academic/non-profit). Details are available on our Value Based Pricing website.

Customers in the U.S. and Canada subscribing to the electronic version of an ACS journal may add the print version for 15% of the print price [PDF]. The price for customers outside the U.S. and Canada is 15% the print price [PDF], plus a postage/handling charge (which varies from journal to journal).

For more information, please contact your ACS Account Manager.

ACS Legacy Archives Pricing

Beginning in 2006, the Archives will become the ACS Legacy Archives. This online database will provide full-text searching and instant access to all titles published by ACS from 1879 to 1995, with seamless integration of searches between the Archives and the Web Editions. Archives articles will be delivered in convenient PDF format with the same high level of readability as the original document.

In addition to the annual subscription option, the ACS will also offer a new one-time payment option to access the ACS Legacy Archives beginning in 2006. The one-time payment will secure ongoing access rights to the Archives content. Customers choosing the one-time payment option will be able to access the Legacy Archives from ACS servers and will be charged a nominal annual maintenance fee.

The annual access fee for a subscription to the ACS Legacy Archives and the new one-time payment option to access the ACS Legacy Archives are dependent upon an evaluation of multiple factors that includes size of the institution, number of sites, usage, and total ACS expenditure. For specific pricing for your institution, please contact your ACS Account Manager.

Access to the ACS Legacy Archives is IP based, so there is no need for user IDs or passwords. Users may search both front-file and Legacy Archives content from a single interface, creating a seamless and comprehensive discovery environment.

For further information about the ACS Legacy Archives, visit our dedicated Website located at http://pubs.acs.org/archives.

Institutions already accessing the ACS Journal Archives will only need to attach an Amendment to their existing agreement in order to change their method of payment for the ACS Legacy Archives. Copies of our Sales Agreement [PDF] and Terms and Conditions [PDF] may be found in the Librarian Resource Center.

Please contact your ACS Account Manager for further details and to receive the Amendment for an existing agreement.

Chemical & Engineering News Online Pricing

Pricing for C&EN Online magazine will be completely separate from any current ACS Web Edition subscriptions you might hold with the ACS as it is a magazine and not a journal.  The annual access fee for individual institutions will be $1,000 in 2006 for an initial site, and $300 for each additional site.

A subscription to C&EN Online is not connected in any way to having, retaining, or subscribing to the print copy of the magazine.  The 2006 institutional print price for Chemical & Engineering News is $260 for domestic subscriptions, and $318 for international subscriptions. The official definition of the subscription covered with an Online subscription is access to the current year's content.  As long as you remain an institutional subscriber, your access will automatically include all back issues of C&EN posted online.

Currently, we have content in C&EN Online back to 1998.  There are no plans at this time to take this back any further.  Keep in mind that unlike our journals, C&EN Online includes HTML of the articles and does not offer scanned PDF pages of the print.  Also, access to the online classifieds are not part of an institutional subscription.

With an institutional subscription to Chemical & Engineering News Online, users have access to the world of chemistry including:
Daily updates and articles on science & technology, government & policy, and business & industry news.
A library of thousands of articles covering a wide range of science disciplines from pharmaceuticals to specialty & custom chemicals from 1998 searchable by key word.
Each weekly issue of Chemical & Engineering News with all the articles and coverage found in the print version.
Special Reports including ACS Salary and Employment Survey, Top U.S. Chemical Producers, Facts & Fitures, World Chemical Outlooks, Chemical R&D Spending, Drug Discovery, and more.
In-Depth features covering research, careers & employment, and education.
Multiple Links to all 32 ACS journals.

Plus, access to the new Nanofocus web site (www.cen-online/nanofocus), a new web site devoted to the science of nanotechnology. Nanofocus contains a library of articles on topics ranging from scientific breakthroughs, policies and social implementation, and investment in technical applications.
