Although CO emissions have been regulated in the United States since the 1960s, some locations still occasionally violate the eight-hour standard for the pollutant. K. John Holmes of the National Research Council (NRC) and Armistead G. Russell with the Georgia Institute of Technology highlight the findings and recommendations of an NRC panel investigating this continuing problem.
