More than hot air

Reducing greenhouse gases confers competitive business benefits, finds a report by the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, a nonprofit independent environmental organization. Corporate Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets is based on case studies of six leading companies—ABB, Entergy, IBM, Shell, Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, and United Technologies. All of these companies see their greenhouse gas reduction targets as improving their market position by reducing production costs, according to the report. The targets also help the businesses prepare for future regulation and enhance their corporate reputation.
