U.S. CO2 emissions on the rise
Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the United States increased by an estimated 3.1% in 2000, according to a report released in November by the U.S. Department of Energys Energy Information Administration. The 3.1% growth rate is well above the average annual growth rate of 1.6% in CO2 emissions in the United States over the past decade. Although CO2 is the largest contributor to U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for more than 80% of the total, emissions of other greenhouse gases, including methane and nitrous oxide, fell during 2000.
