BrochureBrochure. Pall Gelman Laboratory’s Providing the Tools for Discovery gives detailed information on the company’s line of filtration, separation, and detection products for molecular biology and drug discovery. The brochure contains products for the entire research process, including sample preparation; sample purification; PCR, labeling, and probe preparation; transfer and detection; and high-throughput technologies.
Pall Gelman Laboratory 150

Evaporative detector. This light-scattering unit eliminates the problems associated with low-wavelength UV and MS detection of combinatorial libraries. It detects any sample less volatile than the mobile phase, regardless of its optical characteristics and ionization properties. Structural and purity information is obtained quickly without the need for internal or external standards.
Alltech 151

ReactorsReactors. These heated and cooled personal parallel synthesis reactors measure 4 x 6 in. Reactions are run in 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-, or 20-mL septumed glass vials or glass deep-well titer plates. The reactors optimize discovery synthesis and reaction. A digital controller regulates temperature to ±0.1 ºC.
J-Kem Scientific 152

Apoptosis product. This anticleaved caspase-3 antibody is specific for the 18-kDa active fragment. The caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that are expressed in mammalian cells in an inactive procaspase form but cleave a wide variety of substrates upon proteolytic activation. After induction of apoptosis, proteolytic cleavage of procaspase-3 generates an active,18-kDa caspase-3 fragment that targets key modulators of the apoptotic pathway. This antibody recognizes the active 18-kDa fragment but not the 32-kDa procaspase-3.
Trevigen 153

SoftwareSoftware. The Matrix Stability Management system has functions to manage the life cycle of both production and development stability studies. Features include study and protocol design and approval, storage inventory calculations, scheduling storage room operations (placements, cycles, and pulls), and data processing via LIMS. The system works with any LIMS and has a complete range of compliance features for regulated laboratories, including the 21 CFR Part 11 rule.
Zumatrix 154

Antibodies and antigens. This rotavirus monoclonal antibody, Clone 3C10, has broad cross-reactivity and reacts equally well with porcine rotavirus, monkey rotavirus, and many human rotaviruses. The purified antibody detects the rotavirus p42 inner capsid antigen. Applications include ELISA, IHC, and Western blot. It is recommended for use as a detection antibody. Purified bovine rotavirus antigen is strain MR, group A, and may be used as a positive control or immunogen.
Biodesign 155

Temperature control. The Mécour 800 series thermal blocks accommodate from one to four microtiter plates. These sealed units easily connect to liquid circulating baths using standard hose barbs and various application-specific fittings. They provide stable, long-term temperature uniformly across the entire work surface of the thermal block. Constructed of solid aluminum, the blocks provide a temperature range of –100 to 200 ºC.
Mécour 156

HPLC columns. The HyPurity line exhibits excellent peak shapes for a wide range of analytes, including bases and chelators. Benefits include column reproducibility and pH stability ranging from pH 0.9 to 9. HyPurity columns perform well at low buffer concentrations, which is useful for LC/MS applications. A wide variety of internal diameters are available, ranging from 0.18 to 4.6 mm for analytical columns and up to 20 mm for preparative columns in both 3- and 5-µm particle sizes.
Keystone Scientific 157

PCR productsPCR products. The BD Falcon PCR Labware line includes a complete range of items, from 0.5-mL tubes to 384-well microplates, and accessories for sealing PCR plates and for low-stress handling of PCR vessels. All vessels are manufactured using an advanced thin-wall design, which promotes consistency and reliability in the PCR reaction. Each lot of product is tested for DNAse and RNAse to guarantee that no enzymatic contaminants interfere with the PCR reaction. Every lot is further tested for the presence of human genomic DNA.
BD Biosciences 158

Clean bench. The EdgeGARD animal transfer station provides protection for animals in the research laboratory by delivering Class 100 HEPA-filtered air across the work surface. A high-velocity return-air slot ensures a particulate-free work surface and protection from contaminated backwash air. The unit is portable and is available in 4- and 6-ft models.
The Baker Co. 159

SNP scoring. The SNiPer single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) system performs fluorescent detection of SNPs directly from genomic DNA. The fully automated, high-throughput SNiPer can analyze up to 500,000 SNPs per day at low cost. The system uses robotics and laboratory workflow systems.
Amersham Pharmacia Biotech 160

PCR setupPCR setup. PCR Master Mix makes setup of routine reations fast and accurate. The formulation is stable and may be stored at 4 ºC for up to three months. It is pretested for PCR performance to amplify up to 100 copies of genomic template.
Promega 161

Capacitive proximity sensor. The Proxy-2000 monitors minuscule laboratory animal movements. The sensor has two inputs: A low-sensitivity input provides a signal in the range of 0–1 V, and a high sensitivity input provides a signal of 0–1 V and monitors movements associated with respiration.
Columbus Instruments 162

Damage and repair product. The mismatched uracil glycosylase (MUG) protein removes a uracil base from within a U:G mismatch. It was originally identified on the basis of homology to human thymine-DNA glycosylase. A wide variety of chemicals react with DNA to form ethenobases, including vinyl compounds, haloalkanes, halothioketenes, haloaldehydes, and products of lipid peroxidation.
Trevigen 163

FiltersFilters. The 25-mm Millex nonsterile filter units are automation-certified for use on Zymark automated workstations. They are now the recommended filter for Zymark workstations and have been engineered to enhance the filtering operation.
Millipore 164

Particles. These magnetic protein A particles are magnetic porous glass in which protein A has been attached. The particles have immunoglobulin binding properties similar to those of unconjugated protein A. The smallest amount of binding capacity of 1 mg of particles is 40–75 µg of immunoglobulin.
CPG 165

Validation. The wireless process validation system from Kaye Instruments eliminates the need to wire sensors to hard-to-reach equipment. The ValProbe system collects and processes information from up to 10 probes in one operation. Intuitive system software automatically recognizes and reads each probe, processing the data and generating reports tailored to user needs.
