Infrared. The Excalibur
HE FT-IR features the patent-pending Duraglow high-energy source, along with high-throughput
optics and a dynamically aligned interferometer to provide more energy to the
sample for better spectra in less time. The patented detector and signal-processing
electronics, derived from research spectrometers, are coupled to TurboScan rapid-scan
kinetics. The Excalibur HE offers upgrades such as FT-IR microscopy, TGA-IR, GC-IR,
and near- and far-IR capabilities. It can also be equipped with a UMA 600 FT-IR
microscope. Diode. The NanoLED-14 emits pulses of <100
ps at a nominal wavelength of 475 nm. This new cyan diode is particularly well
matched to important fluorophores such as fluorescein and NBD. The NanoLED-14
features adjustable collimation optics with pinhole apertures for beam circularization
and a gold-plated enclosure to ensure minimal emission of radio-frequency noise.
The benchtop driver-module features controls for repetition rate and synchronization
delay, as well as comprehensive synchronization options. Hydrogen Generator. The HOGEN H series
hydrogen generator provides customers with a safe, pure, and reliable alternative
to delivered hydrogen, producing ultrapure hydrogen 24/7 at an output capacity
of 80–240 standard cubic feet per hour at a fraction of the cost of cylinder or
tube trailer gas. The generators are designed to meet the demands of higher-volume
customers in the power generation, semiconductor, electronics, and heat-treating
fields. Calorimeter. For the determination of gross
calorific content in coals, cokes, and fuel oils, the AC500 isoperibol calorimeter
features an integral water-measuring and combustion-vessel-filling station, plus
a fully integrated circulation system. An optional kit allows a string-ignition
combustion vessel, eliminating the need for fuse wires. Three modes of results
are available: Regnault–Pfaundler (20-min analysis time), Precision (8 min), and
Predictive (4.5–7.5 min). Windows-based operating software controls up to four
AC500 units and supports compliance to 21 CFR Part 11. Lab Carryall. The 4-in-1 EZ Tote is designed
for safe and easy transportation of bottles and other lab essentials. The tote
is made of lightweight, tear- and chemical-resistant plastic and comes with preassembled
partitions designed for 500-mL, 1-L, and 4-L bottles. Flow Meter. The CMOSens liquid flow meter
allows measurement in liquid chromatography through Swiss sensor technology. It
is fast and accurately measures even nanoliters per minute with high repeatability.
Users achieve more transparency in HPLC and save time when working with very low
flows. Flow ranges available include 1.5 µL/min–0.5 nL/min, 6.0 µL/min–1.5 nL/min,
and 40.0 µL/min–7.0 nL/min. The fully digital, calibrated liquid flow meter works
with a repeatability of 0.8%, and a readout speed as fast as 200 readings/s allows
users to analyze even highly dynamic effects. Purifier. The APS-2000 purification systems
provide compound isolation and high-throughput purification for the pharmaceutical,
chemical, and life science industries. They are ideal for crude synthesis products,
reference materials, and compounds from natural product extracts. The APS-2000
systems are available in configurations supporting Microwave Digester. The MARS Xpress is
a high-throughput system that processes up to 40 vessels/run. Each vessel is self-regulating
and can digest samples that require conditions of 260 °F or can generate 500 psi.
It features dual noncontact sensors that provide continuous pressure and temperature
feedback for accurate temperature measurements. XpressLink software provides data
collection and real-time display of temperature profiles. Mixers. Kinematica Reactron systems are
designed for laboratory and pilot plant processes that require stirring and/or
homogenization of the components. The 1-L system optimizes small chemical, mixing,
dispersing, and homogenization processes. The larger systems range from 5 to >150
L and may be ordered in standard configurations or customized. The reactors are
often fitted with pH and temperature probes, valved for powder and solids, and
feature either manual, semiautomated, or fully automated process controls. Catalog. This full-color, 272-page issue
presents a complete line of metal and wood casework, countertops, fixtures, sinks,
tables, seating, fume hoods, workstations, appliances, prefabricated rooms, shelving,
carts, safety items, and accessories for new and renovated laboratory facilities.
Comprehensive design, support, and installation services are also offered, as
are product page headings, a comprehensive table of contents, and alphabetical
and catalog number indices. Centrifugal Devices. The Amicon Ultra-4
and 15 high-speed, high-recovery centrifugal devices are combined to allow an
optimal method of salt removal and buffer exchange. This product incorporates
the Ultracel low-binding ultrafiltration membrane to deliver high sample recoveries
with 10-min spin times. The devices are designed to remove >92% of salt from
samples with one centrifugal spin while recovering >90% of the protein. In
addition, both devices allow for direct pipette sample access, which eliminates
an extra processing step. Spectroscopy. A significant upgrade and
expansion have been made to the LAMBDA 650/850/950 series range of instruments
for molecular analysis based on UV, visible, and near-IR spectroscopy. The LAMBDA
650 introduces a high-performance midrange UV–vis system and redefines expectations
for midrange UV–vis instruments by combining ease of use with best-in-class optical
performance and uniquely flexible sampling options. The LAMBDA 850 and 950 combine
ultrahigh spectroscopic performance with significantly improved productivity,
reducing the time required for complex analyses. Plates. MultiSorp products provide researchers
with a new surface that is significantly more hydrophilic than MaxiSorp, with
unique biomolecular selectivity for sensitive solid-phase immunoassays such as
ELISA. Optimized MultiSorp plate designs are offered for differing testing environments:
Solid Immuno Plates for high test volumes; Immuno Modules for high to medium test
volumes; and LockWell Modules for maximum flexibility, allowing use of an entire
plate, a single strip, or a single well. MultiSorp plates are clear and suitable
for colorimetric assays. The LockWell design can also be used for isotopic testing. HPLC Mobile Phases. CHEM+NECT packaging
technology provides a disposable, closed-system alternative to the traditional
and potentially hazardous preparation of HPLC mobile phases. These premixed mobile
phases are manufactured to customer specifications using reagent-grade components
to ensure equivalent performance, and they can be easily connected to any HPLC
system. CHEM+NECT solutions are also offered with stability data to validate long-term
consistency. LC Platform. The Chip-LC is a microfluidic
chip-based device that can carry out HPLC. It integrates sample preparation, reactions,
and separations on a single chip. It also features nebulization of column effluent
for interfacing with a mass spectrometer to identify and quantify separated compounds. Software. KnowItAll spectral databases
can now be accessed through an Internet-based client-server platform designed
for high-speed searching of more than 800,000 spectra. Instead of installing the
entire database on the hard drive, only the client-server software is needed. Rheometer. The RheoCap S series of high-pressure
capillary rheometers provides flexibility in the determination of polymer flow
behavior as a function of shear rate and temperature. A selection of interchangeable
dies allows this computer-controlled instrument to cover a wide range of materials
and shear rates. The S series can be used with rod dies 0.5–2 mm in diameter and
5–40 mm long, and slit capillary dies from 0.5 to 2 mm in size. An elongation
die is also available. Protective Lotion. Gloves in a Bottle is
a lotion that turns the outer layer of skin into what works like an invisible
pair of gloves. Unlike artificial moisturizers, this lotion bonds with the outer
layer of skin to keep moisture-robbing chemicals and other irritants out. It retains
the skin’s natural moisture, resulting in better hydration than what is achieved
by conventional lotions. The lotion is virtually undetectable once dry, lasts
4 h or more, and comes off naturally with exfoliated skin cells. Circulators. The ED models of the Economy
Series are equipped with keypad and digital PID temperature control features and
functions. The set point can easily be entered via the keypad. These units have
an adjustable overtemperature or dry-running protection function. The pump capacity
is 340 mbar at 15 L/min. This series includes heating immersion circulators, heating
circulators, and open-bath circulators with Plexiglas, Makrolon, or stainless
steel bath tanks. GC-MS Software. Version 5.0 of TurboMass
software for the Clarus 500 and TurboMass series of gas chromatograph/mass spectrometers
is based on extensive input from customers and includes templates for forensic,
clinical, or toxicological diagnostics, as well as general chemical analysis.
TurboMass 5.0 optionally includes the NIST spectra library of 147,000 compounds.
Results can be printed or exported for additional analysis. Oil-Free Pump. The Scroll Pump, developed
by BOC Edwards with assistance from Genevac, takes its name from the design of
the pump head, where a series of crescent-shaped scrolls cut into an oscillating
rotor are used to repeatedly compress and decompress the gas or vapor to be pumped.
It is suitable for use in harsh chemistry environments such as high-throughput
chemistry and drug discovery, where corrosive or volatile solvents are frequently
used. Software. Open Access is now available
for the JEOL AccuTOF LC mass spectrometer operating with JEOL Mass Center software.
This allows scientists with no training in MS to submit samples for molecular
weight analysis with exact mass measurement and elemental composition determinations.
Samples are submitted by using a Web browser to enter the samples to be measured.
Reports can be printed or returned by e-mail in PDF format. Label Software. The LabelMark V3 program
creates labels on the spot in the lab. It supports most Windows printer drivers
and can design and print vial, tube, slide, and well-plate labeling. The software
makes it possible to create date- and time-stamped vial-top and wraparound labels.
Included are graphic elements for commonly used lab symbols and a custom template
for laboratory applications. Handbook. This 48-page book provides purification
guidelines and tactics for organic chemists using flash chromatography. Chapters
include Introduction to Flash Chromatography, Separation of Classical & Unusual
Chemical Functionalities, UV-Vis Wavelength Selection Guidelines, and Theory &
Application of Flash Chromatography. In addition, the book provides a variety
of detailed illustrations, a handy Column Selection Guide, reference information
on solvent characteristics, and a Troubleshooting Guide for LC Systems. Website. This site covers a full line of
dispensers and metering pumps for laboratory, industrial, process, and OEM applications.
In addition, the website provides expanded technical support, including sections
for technical FAQs, sales literature, and instruction manual downloads, as well
as “Application of the Month” case histories. Featured products include the IDS2000ARH
Precision Low Volume Industrial Dispenser, STRH Stepper Motor Dispenser with micrometer
volume adjustment, Q3CKC-W Isolation Gland Pump for air-sensitive fluids, and
QCSC-TC Stainless Steel Pump Heads with sanitary flange connections. Software. The Confirm software line addresses
the requirements of the 21 CFR Part 11 Final Rule and is offered with a suite
of products that include the Saturn DigiSizer 5200 High Resolution Laser Particle
Size Analyzer, ASAP 2020 Accelerated Surface Area and Porosimetry System, TriStar
3000 Surface and Porosimetry Analyzer, and Gemini V Series Surface Area Analyzers.
The user can be assured that each system is validated for accuracy and reliability;
secure, computer-generated, time-stamped audit trails are an integral part of
the software program. Detectors. Spectrometers in grazing incidence,
normal incidence, and Seya–Namioka designs can now be equipped with windowless,
back-illuminated CCD detectors for direct detection of spectra. Two models are
available: Model 248/310G for work in the 1- to 100-nm region, and Model 234/302
for work from 50 to 200 nm. Both units are available with gratings of various
groove densities, allowing factory or user configuration for wide-wavelength “survey”
or for high-resolution “zoom” spectroscopy. Dispersers. The Kinematica Polytron mechanical
high-shear batch dispersing/homogenization system can process 4–20 g of solution.
Ideal for product development and optimization in both small- and large-batch
production processes, it is equipped with either standard or explosion-proof motors
that are controlled by a frequency inverter and mounted on a telescopic stand
for easy handling. Software. Version 3.0 of the CyberLAB ECMS
(Enterprise Content Management System) provides advances based on consultations
with CyberLAB users. Features include a user interface patterned after Internet
Explorer, Record Retention Lifecycle to manage the entire electronic record life
cyle, improved database search capabilities such as a synonym feature and a multiple-database
search, and improved file storage support covering a greater range of file types. Valve. The Liquid X is a high-performance,
two-position isolated diaphragm valve measuring 12 mm wide. It is designed for
medical, bioanalytical, and clinical chemistry OEM devices. Characteristics include
a low internal volume of Chromatograph. The ACQUITY ultraperformance
LC system uses patented 1.7-µm hybrid particles in the columns to obtain faster
run times than HPLC systems. The 1.7-µm particle is a pressure-tolerant, reverse-phase
particle made of organic (e.g., organosiloxane) and inorganic (silica) elements.
Each column features an eCord that records the number of injections, observed
backpressures, and column temperature. The system is controlled by either Empower
or Mass Lynx chromatography/MS software. |
