Infrared. The Excalibur HE FT-IR features the patent-pending Duraglow high-energy source, along with high-throughput optics and a dynamically aligned interferometer to provide more energy to the sample for better spectra in less time. The patented detector and signal-processing electronics, derived from research spectrometers, are coupled to TurboScan rapid-scan kinetics. The Excalibur HE offers upgrades such as FT-IR microscopy, TGA-IR, GC-IR, and near- and far-IR capabilities. It can also be equipped with a UMA 600 FT-IR microscope.

Diode. The NanoLED-14 emits pulses of <100 ps at a nominal wavelength of 475 nm. This new cyan diode is particularly well matched to important fluorophores such as fluorescein and NBD. The NanoLED-14 features adjustable collimation optics with pinhole apertures for beam circularization and a gold-plated enclosure to ensure minimal emission of radio-frequency noise. The benchtop driver-module features controls for repetition rate and synchronization delay, as well as comprehensive synchronization options.

Three modes of results are available: Regnault–Pfaundler (20-min analysis time), Precision (8 min), and Predictive (4.5–7.5 min). Flow Meter. The CMOSens liquid flow meter allows measurement in liquid chromatography through Swiss sensor technology. It is fast and accurately measures even nanoliters per minute with high repeatability. Users achieve more transparency in HPLC and save time when working with very low flows. Flow ranges available include 1.5 µL/min–0.5 nL/min, 6.0 µL/min–1.5 nL/min, and 40.0 µL/min–7.0 nL/min. The fully digital, calibrated liquid flow meter works with a repeatability of 0.8%, and a readout speed as fast as 200 readings/s allows users to analyze even highly dynamic effects.

Purifier. The APS-2000 purification systems provide compound isolation and high-throughput purification for the pharmaceutical, chemical, and life science industries. Microwave Digester. The MARS Xpress is a high-throughput system that processes up to 40 vessels/run. Each vessel is self-regulating and can digest samples that require conditions of 260 °F or can generate 500 psi. XpressLink software provides data collection and real-time display of temperature profiles.

Centrifugal Devices. The Amicon Ultra-4 and 15 high-speed, high-recovery centrifugal devices are combined to allow an optimal method of salt removal and buffer exchange. This product incorporates the Ultracel low-binding ultrafiltration membrane to deliver high sample recoveries with 10-min spin times. The devices are designed to remove >92% of salt from samples with one centrifugal spin while recovering >90% of the protein. In addition, both devices allow for direct pipette sample access, which eliminates an extra processing step.

Spectroscopy. A significant upgrade and expansion have been made to the LAMBDA 650/850/950 series range of instruments for molecular analysis based on UV, visible, and near-IR spectroscopy. Plates. MultiSorp products provide researchers with a new surface that is significantly more hydrophilic than MaxiSorp, with unique biomolecular selectivity for sensitive solid-phase immunoassays such as ELISA. Optimized MultiSorp plate designs are offered for differing testing environments: Solid Immuno Plates for high test volumes; Immuno Modules for high to medium test volumes; and LockWell Modules for maximum flexibility, allowing use of an entire plate, a single strip, or a single well. MultiSorp plates are clear and suitable for colorimetric assays. The LockWell design can also be used for isotopic testing.

Rheometer. The RheoCap S series of high-pressure capillary rheometers provides flexibility in the determination of polymer flow behavior as a function of shear rate and temperature. A selection of interchangeable dies allows this computer-controlled instrument to cover a wide range of materials and shear rates. The S series can be used with rod dies 0.5–2 mm in diameter and 5–40 mm long, and slit capillary dies from 0.5 to 2 mm in size. An elongation die is also available.

Protective Lotion. Gloves in a Bottle is a lotion that turns the outer layer of skin into what works like an invisible pair of gloves. Unlike artificial moisturizers, this lotion bonds with the outer layer of skin to keep moisture-robbing chemicals and other irritants out. It retains the skin’s natural moisture, resulting in better hydration than what is achieved by conventional lotions. The lotion is virtually undetectable once dry, lasts 4 h or more, and comes off naturally with exfoliated skin cells.

Circulators. The ED models of the Economy Series are equipped with keypad and digital PID temperature control features and functions. The set point can easily be entered via the keypad. These units have an adjustable overtemperature or dry-running protection function. The pump capacity is 340 mbar at 15 L/min. This series includes heating immersion circulators, heating circulators, and open-bath circulators with Plexiglas, Makrolon, or stainless steel bath tanks.

Version 5.0 of TurboMass software for the Clarus 500 and TurboMass series of gas chromatograph/mass spectrometers is based on extensive input from customers and includes templates for forensic, clinical, or toxicological diagnostics, as well as general chemical analysis. Oil-Free Pump. The Scroll Pump, developed by BOC Edwards with assistance from Genevac, takes its name from the design of the pump head, where a series of crescent-shaped scrolls cut into an oscillating rotor are used to repeatedly compress and decompress the gas or vapor to be pumped. It is suitable for use in harsh chemistry environments such as high-throughput chemistry and drug discovery, where corrosive or volatile solvents are frequently used.

Software. Open Access is now available for the JEOL AccuTOF LC mass spectrometer operating with JEOL Mass Center software. This allows scientists with no training in MS to submit samples for molecular weight analysis with exact mass measurement and elemental composition determinations. Samples are submitted by using a Web browser to enter the samples to be measured. Reports can be printed or returned by e-mail in PDF format.

Label Software. The LabelMark V3 program creates labels on the spot in the lab. It supports most Windows printer drivers and can design and print vial, tube, slide, and well-plate labeling. The software makes it possible to create date- and time-stamped vial-top and wraparound labels. Chromatograph. The ACQUITY ultraperformance LC system uses patented 1.7-µm hybrid particles in the columns to obtain faster run times than HPLC systems. The 1.7-µm particle is a pressure-tolerant, reverse-phase particle made of organic (e.g., organosiloxane) and inorganic (silica) elements. Each column features an eCord that records the number of injections, observed backpressures, and column temperature.
