Martin Gouterman's paper (page 697) is one of thirteen articles in this issue based on a symposium sponsored jointly by the Division of Chemical Education and the Division of InorganicChemistry at the ACS meeting held in Orlando, Florida, in August 1996. The symposium, beginning on page 633, focuses on applications of inorganic photochemistry in three general areas: biological chemistry, luminescence sensors, and advanced materials.
