About the Cover:
The cover illustrates a class of polymers called dendrimers, a name derived from "tree". As described in the article, "Dendrimers: Branching Out of Polymer Chemistry" (pp 1222) by Eric E. Simanek and Sergio O. Gonzalez, each AB2 building block consists of one group "A" coming in from the trunk (core) and two groups "B" extending towards the leaves (periphery). In the triazines, illustrated at the lower left, one person in black-and-white represents the branching aromatic triazine ring "A" and two persons the diamine linkers, piperazine or p-aminobenzylamine, "B". Structures of the most popular AB2 building blocks are shown in the lower right: the triazine ring; 3,5-dihydroxybenzyl alcohol; poly(propyleneimine); lysine; and poly(amidoamine).
