Iodine Sublimation Thermometer. A few grams of iodine in a 12-liter round bottom flask provides a visual indication of the temperature with increasing sublimation pressure- the deeper the color the higher the temperature. Ths cover photograph was taken when the air temperature was about 90 degrees F in the Green Valley, Arizona, and shows Mount Wrightson of the Santa Rita range in the background. The instrucations for making an iodine thermometer are described on page 878.
